I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

A lot of appliances and fixtures have isolating valves that can be turned off. For example, the toilet will have a tap below or beside the cistern. If you cannot find a tap, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains water tap to cut off all the water to the house.

Once that is sorted, give us a ring, whatever the day or time is. We will be with you rapidly to fix the leak.

While you are waiting, clear away any significant things from the area, and mop up any water or place a bucket to catch any drips. If you turned the mains water off, also switch off the heating for the hot water as well.
